Shut Down Procedures

In case of a power outage or overheating, you may need to shut down your server or workstations. Proper shut down will ensure that nothing gets corrupted or damaged. If your server is not receiving power, the battery back-up unit will kick in to give you time to properly shut down. If you hear beeping from the battery back-up, that means it is in use and you should shut down the server to investigate the power problem.

Shutting Down the Linux Server

  • Make sure that each worsktation is out of Phoenix.
  • Go to the station that has the Linux server tower, usually both towers together with one touchscreen.
  • Hit the scroll lock key twice quickly and then the down arrow key.
  • You should now see a black screen, if not try again
  • If the screen is totally black hit the shift key and then you should see a screen that asks you to login
  • Type "posuser" and hit enter.
  • It will now ask for a password. Type "password" and hit enter. Note you will see nothing when typing your password, this is for security.
  • After logging in you will see a Phoenix Utility Menu. Choose option 11 to reboot or shutdown. Type 11 and hit enter.
  • The system will ask you to confirm that no stations are being used, this is important to prevent database corruption, do not reboot or shutdown while the system is in use.
  • You will then be asked to type "reboot" or "shutdown" to confirm this choice. A reboot will automatically restart your system and it will be finished when you see the login screen. You do not need to login. Just repeat the scroll lock twice down arrow sequence to get back to the other station with windows on it go back into Phoenix.
  • If you choose shutdown, you will need to press the power button on your server to start up again.

If you have an older system, you may not see the Phoenix Utility Menu. Pease call FireFly support to be updated.
